SECTION 1

SPEEDING
Each year, approximately 360 people are killed or taken to hospital due to speed-related crashes in Queensland. We explain why speeding is one of the Fatal 5 and help you to understand why Speed limits on all roads are set based on many considerations, including: the amount of traffic on the road, how many intersections there are and nearby pedestrian activity.

FATIGUE
Can you spot the signs of fatigue? It can happen anywhere or any time. We highlight the signs and why Fatigue is a major contributor to the Fatal 5.

SEATBELTS
Seatbelts reduce the risk of a fatal or serious injury by about 25% when worn correctly. Not wearing a seatbelt contributes to the Fatal 5.

DISTRACTION
Knowing how far your car can travel in the time it takes to glance at your phone (if driving at 50km/h) and the risks of distractions when your driving will make you a safer driver. Distraction is a major contributor to the Fatal 5.

IMPAIRED DRIVING
There are different Blood/Breath Alcohol Concentration (BAC) limits depending on the type of licence you hold. Queensland has a zero tolerance policy for driving with any trace of cannabis, speed, ice or ecstasy in your system. Impaired driving is a major contributor to the Fatal 5.

BEING A BETTER DRIVER
The Fatal 5 affects our entire community, not just those involved in a crash. We will explore the ripple effects a crash can have. It takes experience and the right attitude. What kind of driver will you be?

RISKS PROFILE
Every year, an average of 364 people die or are seriously injured in speed-related crashes in Queensland. That is nearly one person every day. What do you know about the risks facing new drivers. Understanding on your own personal risk profile will help lessen this number.

BETTER DRIVER VALUES
You have to earn the right to drive by committing to the Better Driver Values. As part of your commitment, you’ll need to nominate a supervisor with an Email address. Your supervisor will be the person most likely to teach you how to drive.
